After sitting vacant for nearly two decades on a prime piece of oceanfront real estate, a landmark hotel in Palm Beach underwent extensive renovations and reopened as Palm House. Many of this Mediterranean-style property’s best features were preserved, from the coral-hued facade to the elegant pool deck framed by palm trees in the central courtyard. But as the first property to open in the US as part of the London-based L+R Hotels’ Iconic Luxury Hotels collection, it's been updated accordingly. Refreshed rooms are bright and cheerful with sixties-inspired decor — decorative mirrored wall panels, mod table lamps, king-sized beds with retro-looking upholstered headboards, Juliet balconies, and huge marble bathrooms with soaking tubs. Suites are palatial with curving modular sofas and Art Deco details; one has an Alaskan king bed rumored to be the largest in town. The fanciful Palm bar, with glamorous pink Murano glass chandeliers suspended from high vaulting ceilings, is worth the trip on its own.
