Modern Design & Quiet
Sometimes the word “castle” is open to interpretation, but Castel Hörtenberg means it in the most straightforward way. This Renaissance-era structure played a central role in the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809; today, in quieter times, it’s been meticulously restored, uncovering centuries of history, and now stands as one of Bolzano’s most luxurious and unique lodgings.

Its rooms and suites are nothing short of lavish, and while many incorporate original elements like timbered or coffered ceilings, what’s new is as new as can be — the fixtures and furnishings might look equally at home in an urban design hotel. The spa, perhaps surprisingly, feels thoroughly high-tech, almost futuristic, while the old dungeons, with their weathered stone walls and vaulted ceilings, now host Le Segrete, the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant.
