"Good Morning, Vietnam" may remain one of the most overused Instagram captions in travel, but it no longer tells the full story. The Vietnam of today is a far cry from the image that shaped international perceptions decades ago. Today, Vietnam is one of Asia's most exciting destinations, where heritage, hospitality, dining, and natural beauty come together with remarkable ease.
In 2025, Vietnam received its first-ever MICHELIN Key distinctions, with 13 properties across the country recognized by MICHELIN Inspectors. Drawn from that landmark inaugural selection, these five standout hotels showcase the breadth of Vietnam's appeal, from Hanoi's historic grandeur and Sa Pa's misty mountains to the pristine shores of Khánh Hòa.
Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
What it's all about: This One-Key historic landmark is a living icon. It is also home to one of Hanoi's most enduring French dining institutions and the iconic egg coffee.The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is a living piece of history and one of Vietnam's most iconic addresses. Opened in 1901 in the heart of Hanoi, beneath the property lies an underground bomb shelter rediscovered in 2011. During air raids in the 1970s, guests, including American singer-songwriter Joan Baez and actress Jane Fonda, sought refuge there. Baez is said to have recorded part of her song "Where Are You Now, My Son?" from inside the bunker.
The hotel also has a place in Vietnam's culinary history. The Metropole's legacy extends to the coffee cup. In 1946, bartender Nguyễn Văn Giảng created Vietnam's now-iconic egg coffee here, using whipped egg yolks as a rich substitute for scarce milk. It is also home to Le Beaulieu, one of Hanoi's most enduring French dining institutions and a MICHELIN-listed restaurant.
Amanoi
What it's all about: A Three-Key, ultra-luxury clifftop hideaway in a national park with sunshine all year round.Perched high above Vinh Hy Bay within Núi Chúa National Park, this Three–MICHELIN-Key retreat commands sweeping views of one of Vietnam's most extraordinary landscapes, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where rugged mountains meet the sea. Calling it paradise may sound like a cliché, but from this hillside perch, it is difficult to argue otherwise.
The architecture embraces Aman’s signature restraint, but don't mistake that for simplicity. Villas and pavilions cascade down the hillside, many with private pools, open-plan living spaces, and spa-like bathrooms that make it hard to tell where the indoors end and nature begins. Look for a hidden library concealed beneath the main restaurant, and you have a resort that rewards curiosity as much as relaxation.
Despite its coastal setting, the national park enjoys more than 250 days of sunshine each year, making it ideal for hiking, wildlife spotting, and exploring Vietnam's central coastline by land or sea. Dreamed up by the ever-eccentric Bill Bensley, the hotel is a love letter to the golden age of opera, with fictional divas, composers and performers woven into every corner of its delightfully over-the-top interiors. If your design philosophy is "more is more," you've come to the right place.
The opera theme spills into the rooms and suites, where vintage glamour meets contemporary comfort. The Opera Suites steal the show, but even the entry-level rooms feel like carefully staged sets filled with character and storytelling details. For a boutique hotel, Capella Hanoi punches far above its weight on the dining front. There's the elegant Backstage, the glamorous Diva's Lounge, and Hibana by Koki, home to a One MICHELIN Star Japanese restaurant. Add two more MICHELIN-listed dining venues, Backstage and Izakaya by Koki, under the same roof, and you have one of the capital's most impressive culinary addresses.
