Set in the what was once the headquarters of the Norwegian America Line cruise-ship company, Amerikalinjen is a tribute to its setting’s glamorous seafaring history. Its contemporary interiors include maritime-themed touches like shiny marble and brass surfaces in the lobby, and a collection of framed maps, photographs, and old dining menus from ships decorate the hotel. Rooms highlight charming, original architectural details, such as deep-ledged windows and corniced ceilings. Though the hotel is perfectly situated for sightseeing in central Oslo’s cultural hub, including the Snøhetta-designed Opera House and Munch Museum, it also boasts an impressive array of restaurants and bars that are popular with locals, including Gustav, the basement jazz club.
