Back in the 1930s, lumberjacks and skiers passing through the mountain village of Corrençon-en-Vercors would knock on the doors of a local farmhouse, asking for a meal or a place to spend the night. A few generations later, that same family runs Hôtel du Golf. The place has come a long way since its modest early days — the hotel’s restaurant, Asterales, has one MICHELIN star, and modern updates include an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi with nature views — but the warm atmosphere and alpine charm are very much intact.

Rooms are cozy and simple, lined in knotty wood, with large windows facing the surrounding woods, and many have bathtubs and private terraces. A few have wood-burning stoves, and larger duplex-style suites offer extra space for families. Though the hotel is named for the adjacent golf course, the town is best known as a base for exploring the cliffs and caves of Vercors Regional Natural Park.
