Maison Jalon

Housed in a midcentury modern glass and concrete structure that looks straight off a vintage Palm Springs postcard, Maison Jalon is not what you’d expect to find in Aix-en-Provence. But the boutique hotel is a laid-back and stylish place to base yourself while exploring the region. The two-story building has boxy motel-style guest rooms with big bay windows, individually decorated with retro lamps, colorful wallpaper, and art objects collected on the owners’ world travels. Each comes with a walk-in shower and a private terrace overlooking the green gardens and bright blue swimming pool below. A gourmet breakfast, artfully presented with fresh-squeezed organic juices and piping hot pastries, is served al fresco when weather permits. The flowering gardens and pool area are dotted with daybeds for dozing after a wine tasting or relaxing under the stars.
