Supper Series: 5 Korean BBQ Spots for that Late-Night Sizzle

Here are five Korean BBQ spots that have raised the steaks for supper.

We don't know about you but we find magic when a slab of well-marbled meat hits the hot grill; the sizzle, the smells and the sight of a deliciously golden char developing over the meat is a sight to behold. And for reasons unknown, the allure is even greater when it's late into the night after a couple of cold beers have been had.

Here are five Korean BBQ spots that stay open past midnight.

Super Star K
75 Tanjong Pagar Road
Opening hours: 11.30am to 3pm for lunch, 5.30pm to 3am for dinner, daily.

Opened until 3am everyday, Super Star K has your post-drinks supper backs. On their menu is a commendable variety of meats and cuts for their BBQ. Customers can choose from marinated prime beef ribs to pork belly bulgogi, black pepper chicken to shaved beef brisket. The prices at Super Star K are steeper compared to the rest of its Korean BBQ neighbours but the quality is well worth the extra dollars. The service here is top-notch too, with the servers doing everything from cooking, slicing and serving the barbecued meats onto your plate.

Korean Fusion BBQ
5 Dunlop Street, #02-00
Opening hours: 11.30am to 2am, daily.

At less than $30 a head for an all-you-can-eat buffet, it's one of the most value-for-money Korean BBQs around. Korean Fusion BBQ is so named for the variety of flavours showcased in their marinated pork belly line-up; from herbal to char siew, green curry to Thai-spiced. And if you're up for some drinks to accompany your meats, try their watermelon soju ($18) that's served in a hollowed out watermelon sphere for size.

Hongdae Korean Restaurant
118 Neil Road
Opening hours: 6pm to 8am, daily.

Here's a supper spot that toes the line of serving breakfast. Hongdae Korean Restaurant closes its doors as late as (or as early as) 8am in the morning. The meats served are of premium quality as are the side dishes. Their fluffy steamed egg is a showstopper and their naengmyeon (cold, savoury buckwheat noodles), well worth the calories.

O.BBa BBQ Tanjong Pagar
63 Tanjong Pagar Road
Opening hours: 12pm to 8am, Tues to Sun. 5pm to 8am, Monday.

They've got a sister restaurant couple of shops down Tanjong Pagar road that dishes up Korean-Chinese cuisine until 3am; think jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles). But O.BBa BBQ takes the late-night venture a step further, operating through the night to 8am in the morning. Apart from the usual BBQ suspects, their soondubu jjigae, a Korean soft tofu stew, hits all the late-night supper spots and provides a nice, spicy relief from the rich BBQ meats.

Supulae
80 Tanjong Pagar Road
Opening hours: 5pm to 1am, Sun to Thurs. 5pm to 4am, Fri & Sat.

Customers are truly spoilt for choice on Tanjong Pagar road. Here's another Korean BBQ spot that stays open late on most nights. Their BBQ sets are decently priced ($38.80 to $58.80) and varied. We also like that the sets allow customers to choose from a selection of three soups, kimchi, bean paste or soft tofu. They've also got a decent selection of beers and makgeolli to pair with your BBQ.
