After much speculation, the wait is finally over: the Nordic Countries Stars have been unveiled!
Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides, announced the 2018 awards this afternoon at a special launch event in Copenhagen City Hall, where Niko Grünfeld, the Mayor of Culture and Leisure; Karen Hækkerup, the CEO of the Danish Agriculture and Food Council; and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, were also in attendance.
“Our Nordic Countries Guide goes from strength to strength as our inspectors seek out exciting new restaurants, while continuing to follow the progress of already established kitchens. It is little wonder that so many food-lovers are now visiting this part of the world”, said Ellis.
The top accolade went to Frantzén in Stockholm, which gained Three Stars, while Daniel Berlin in Skåne Tranås, Sweden and Kadeau in Copenhagen, Denmark, earned Two Stars each.
7 restaurants were awarded One Star: Grön in Helsinki (Finland); Galt in Oslo (Norway); and Me|Mu in Vejle and Jordnær in Gentofte (Denmark); along with SAV in Malmo, and Aloë and Agrikultur in Stockholm (Sweden).
Commenting on the new Two and Three Star restaurants, Rebecca Burr, Director of the Guide said “Björn Frantzén has found the perfect environment for his creative cooking and we love the counter dining experience. Daniel Berlin makes wonderful use of local ingredients, with the emphasis on balance, purity and precision. At Kadeau Copenhagen you really sense that the team are like a family; their passion really comes through in the cooking, which is full of finesse and intricacy”.
