Contemporary Classic & Lively
In the mid-19th century, Helsinki’s Kamppi district was home to a community of Finnish independence-minded intellectuals called Fennomaniacs, and served as the hub of its literary institutions and pursuits. The Hotel St. George, with a dramatic facade overlooking Old Church Park on Yrjönkatu, is steeped in over 150 years of this history, having served as home to the Finnish Literary Society and printing operations for the first Finnish-language newspaper. Designed by renowned architect Onni Tarjanne, the St. George hosts guests in rooms dedicated in name and feel to its literary forebears, with handsome ateliers and suites with luxe Scandinavian comforts. Its Wintergarden restaurant is an atrium that bills itself as a living room for locals, and Boon Nam’s menu is a celebration of Thai cuisine.
