Washington’s oldest surviving apartment building, a Romanesque Revival landmark constructed in 1888, sat empty for years before Arlo Hotels snapped it up, along with the vacant lot next door. Fast-forward to the opening of Arlo Washington DC, a luxury hotel that takes up a whole city block, juxtaposing the restored structure with a boxy twelve-story addition.
The interior design varies greatly: rooms in the historic building feature vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls and archways, while those in the new wing are minimalist in style. All are bright and modern with walnut flooring, white oak furniture, custom lighting, built-in window seats, and black and white penny-tiled bathrooms. Suites also offer terraces and living rooms.
The indoor-outdoor rooftop bar is a hot spot in all seasons, particularly in summer when the adjacent pool is open, and a locally renowned Spanish chef oversees breakfast, cocktails, and everything in between at the courtyard restaurant on the ground level.
