It might be home to a working farm and the five luxury villas that are also mentioned, but the seemingly endless amount of nature and a remote location overlooking the Pacific makes it easy to feel like you’ve retreated alone to the edge of the world. The accommodations make the most of the space and have been designed as secluded sanctuaries that sit alone in private bays or up on hills to offer enviable views — and tranquility. Each is fully equipped for a completely self-sufficient stay, but if you do feel getting out to explore there are plenty of activities to choose from, including cooking classes, hiking trails, kayaking, farm activities and more, and civilization is just a 30-minute drive away in the nearby town of Akaroa. To preserve the privacy there is no traditional restaurant, instead guests are welcome to take advantage of a private chef on the nights when they don’t feel like cooking, who can prepare dinners in Annandale’s main lodge or deliver them to straight to the villa door, no matter how remote it is.
