Contemporary Classic & Quiet
No relation to the similarly named Brazilian hotels, Italy’s Grand Hotel Fasano is a luxury hotel of classic vintage, a 19th-century royal hunting lodge on the shores of Lake Garda, at the edge of the Dolomites. It’s been owned by the same family for three generations now, and it’s seen some changes during that time — additions to the familiar neoclassical structure, and the kind of upgrades that make it suitable for 21st-century guests. Even so, it’s retained the old-world grandeur that is an increasingly scarce commodity in the hospitality world, even in Italy.
The rooms and suites are as luxe as ever, in restrained neutrals and metallic accents, and combine contemporary minimalism and ornate tradition to great effect. Many of them come with balconies or terraces facing the lake or the surrounding mountains, and there’s plentiful outdoor common space as well. An Aveda spa and a pair of swimming pools round out the leisure facilities, and the lake offers inducements of its own, from kayaking to sailing and more. Meanwhile the Fasano comes equipped with two fine-dining restaurants, a trattoria, and a beach club, as well as a trio of bars.
