AMERON Neuschwanstein Alpsee Resort & Spa
21 Alpseestraße, Schwangau, Germany
137 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Quiet
One MICHELIN Key · A very special stay
There are few places in Europe as picturesque as this corner of Bavaria, where the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle stands on a forested mountainside overlooking the waters of the Alpsee and the peaks beyond. The Ameron Neuschwanstein Alpsee Resort & Spa takes some of its stylistic cues from the ornate historicist castle, as it includes three antique hotels among its buildings; to these it adds a pair of contemporary buildings that complement the historical structures without imitating them.
The result, as is typical for the Ameron hotels, is impressive, a tastefully stylish experience that provides some present-day context for the 19th-century wonders that surround it. The rooms and suites in the historical hotel buildings are a handsome mix of period architectural elements and antique and modernist design gestures, while those in the newer buildings are more straightforwardly contemporary. All of them are comfortable above all, and many of the views are extraordinary, facing either Neuschwanstein Castle or its counterpart, Hohenschwangau.
As you’d expect from a luxury hotel in the Bavarian Alps, there’s an extensive spa and wellness program, and opportunities for outdoor recreation abound. Meanwhile, the hotel’s restaurants include Schloss Bräustüberl, the traditional option, complete with a beer garden, as well as Lisl, serving refined farm-to-table Alpine cuisine.
