This family-owned restaurant in Little Havana has been open since 1971 and is packed day and night with locals who’ve been eating here since they were kids. Keeping them company are tourists and politicians who wish to be seen. Indeed, everybody knows this corner of Calle Ocho to the point that it has its own dedicated parking lot.
Etched mirrors on all sides and sparkling chandeliers make the dining room feel even more cavernous, while an endless menu of Cuban classics is immediately alluring. Find simple, homey pleasures in bowls of fluffy arroz con pollo, flaky empanadas and warm yuca fritters. For those in a hurry, stop by the bakery next door for a quick cafecito and pastry. For everybody else, this food will always be worth the wait.
