Set as it is in the historic old town, with views of the estuary, Hotel Tayko Bilbao is nothing if not attractive — this picturesque 1924 building has been not just preserved but updated with modern architectural interventions in steel, glass, and polished concrete. The result is one part industrial and one part classic, and the rooms, from the cozy singles to the junior suites, benefit from the lively contrast. As do the public spaces, especially restaurant Ola, which has one Michelin Star under the culinary direction of highly acclaimed Basque chef, Martín Berasategui.

Great staff, great location and wonderful bodega for breakfast. Room was very small but we booked standard as it was on quiet not on the main street, so I guess we should have expected it. Clean modern design to the hotel. We walked everywhere. Would highly recommend.

Location was perfect. I would not stay anywhere else in Bilbao. On the river, but adjacent to the lovely and lively old city. Interior design was my idea of perfection. Clean, elegant lines and furnishings, clever repurposing of old structural elements, and exquisite bathrooms. Staff was first rate; efficient and helpful.
