MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This beloved neighborhood bistro won locals’ hearts many moons ago, but Chef/owner/writer Gabrielle Hamilton's evolving talents keep them loyal. The tiny space packs a serious punch—both for its sweet décor, which is surprisingly comfy to linger in, and for the kitchen’s adventurous food. From greeting to check, Prune delivers the whole package. Both Hamilton and wife/co-chef Ashley Merriman create soulful and unpretentious dishes. Savor tender stewed tripe Lyonnaise in a luxurious broth with carrots, celery and bay leaf; or perfectly poached chicken in a deliciously restorative stock with ham and oxtail. Guests may watch the excitement unfold in the open kitchen while nursing a drink.Nightly specials, listed on the chalkboard, are always worth perusing.
