MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This restaurant has watched over Kyoto for more than 450 years from within the Nanzenji Temple grounds. 14th-generation owner-chef Eiichi Takahashi says he wants his customers to enjoy the depth of Kyo-ryori to their hearts’ content. Breakfast rice gruel and quail rice gruel are seasonal dishes in the summer and winter, respectively. ‘Hyotei Tamago’, which has been the speciality since the time it was a teahouse, has been passed down through generations.
