Built on the estate of the Mitsui family, founders of one of Japan’s largest keiretsu conglomerates, the Mitsui Kyoto is something totally unique. Guests enter the estate through a landmark 300-year-old gate, just across from the UNESCO-listed Nijo Castle, before making their way into this stunning Luxury Collection property, the only luxury hotel in the city center with its own onsen hot spring. Designed by a team of Japanese artists and architects led by the Hong Kong–based Andre Fu, it’s a feast for the eyes, and for all the other senses as well; reason enough to visit Kyoto all on its own.
