Villa Cora
Viale Machiavelli 18, Florence, Italy
43 Rooms
Traditional Elegance & Secluded
Two MICHELIN Keys · An exceptional stay
Built by Baron Oppenheim for his bride in the nineteenth century, during Florence’s brief turn as Italy’s capital, Villa Cora still feels like a private residence. This neoclassical mansion sits on the outskirts of Florence, yet is still convenient to the city, near the Boboli Gardens and the Piazzale Michelangelo.
The slightly removed location presents a distinct advantage, as Florence is one of Italy’s most popular tourist destinations—fortunately they tend to concentrate in Florence’s bigger hotels, and Villa Cora remains a well kept secret, always quiet and elegant. A complimentary shuttle from the hotel is available for the short trip to the city center, and in fact those in the mood for a walk can make the trip in about twenty (picturesque) minutes.
The interiors are opulent, as one would expect from a historic Italian villa, especially in Florence; rooms are outfitted with antique and reproduction furnishings, as well as Persian and Oriental rugs and period artworks. The hotel feels smaller and more intimate than its 46 rooms, and, surprisingly, has an outdoor, heated swimming pool open year-round as well as manicured gardens and a solarium with a view. Though you may be tempted to shut yourself in, it would be a waste of a fine city—instead see the sights, and boast loudly to anyone who will listen about your exclusive accommodations, before retiring from the traveling circus to the exquisite Villa.
