The Hoxton, Williamsburg

97 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, USA
Williamsburg
175 Rooms
Modern Design & Happening
Shoreditch, the East London district that was home to the original Hoxton Hotel, became the hippest neighborhood in town right around the same time Williamsburg became New York’s own capital of cool. So it’s only fitting that the first Hoxton in the United States should set up shop here. The Hoxton, Williamsburg occupies a modern building, but it’s a loving tribute to the neighborhood’s industrial heritage — another attribute Williamsburg shares with Shoreditch.

Here, with plenty of space to work with thanks to the blank slate of a new building, the rooms are a touch larger than those in other Hoxtons — and thanks to the building’s low-lying surroundings, it offers far-ranging views over North Brooklyn and the Manhattan skyline. Floor-to-ceiling windows and king beds bring a touch of luxury, and each room has a selection of books chosen by a different local artist or creative.

And as lovely as the rooms are, in a hotel like the Hoxton you’re meant to spend some time socializing as well. K’Far, the all-day Israeli restaurant, bar, and café, takes advantage of its unique setting on a patio with a retractable glass roof, for sunlit dining year-round. Meanwhile Laser Wolf, the rooftop restaurant, is inspired by the shipudiyas of Israel, serving charcoal-grilled meats and vegetables against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline.

I stay at the Hoxton group regularly using Chicago, LA, Brooklyn, Shoreditch, Holborn, Amsterdam and even Shepherds Bush. The relatively recent design upgrade is a triumph, my only complaint is that it came with a price hike which put the original Hoxton positioning in the past and positioned them against more luxury offerings. Thats fine but trying to check in in the middle of a nightclub atmosphere (like Chicago often is) - doesn’t lend itself to $600 a night pricing.
