Top London Restaurants for Brunch

6 Restaurants
The breakfast/lunch combo we all love to love is the ideal setting for a long-overdue catch up with friends. Since brunch is most usually a weekend occurrence, we have the time to take it at a leisurely pace and enjoy both the delicious food and the great company. It's also the only time apart from Christmas that it’s acceptable to drink before midday – cheers to brunch!

Bellanger
9 Islington Green, Islington, N1 2XH London
££ · Mediterranean Cuisine

With many of them inspired by the grand cafés of Europe, you can generally rely on a restaurant from The Wolseley Group when it comes to brunch – whether it’s eggs every which way at Delaunay or a selection of gröstl and rösti at Fischer’s. Bellanger, for its part, is a French-inspired neighbourhood spot overlooking Islington Green. Their weekend brunch selection includes – in line with the general Mediterranean bent of the menu – eggs Basquaise, which features a chorizo, tomato and red pepper ragout.

Bombay Bustle
29 Maddox Street, Mayfair, W1S 2PA London
££ · Indian

Sunday brunch Mumbai-style comes courtesy of this charming, train-themed restaurant, which pays homage to the culture and people of India. The menu offers everything from chaat and pao to curries and kebabs. To try a popular breakfast favourite in Parsi households, go for the Masala Akuri Truffle Naan; if you're feeling hungry, then the feast-like 'Brunch Bundle' to share is a great option.

Chiltern Firehouse
1 Chiltern Street, Marylebone, W1U 7PA London
£££ · World Cuisine

Ensconced in one of the leather booths of this glamorous, New York style brasserie, you and your gang can pick apart the details of the night before whilst getting stuck into a Bloody Mary or two. The menu lists all the usual suspects like scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and buttermilk pancakes; but, seeing as you’re here, perhaps you should splash out on some oysters and champagne.

Kudu
119 Queen's Road, Peckham, SE15 2EZ London
££ · South African

If you’re a Peckhamite then you’ll doubtless have heard of this buzzy South African bistro. But if you haven’t yet been in for brunch, then what are you waiting for? They’re open 11am-2.30pm Saturday and Sunday, meaning you can indulge yourself in brunch dishes from shakshuka with parmesan crisps & burnt kale to Boerewors with chakalaka, fried egg and chimichurri. Everything on offer at this Bib Gourmand spot packs in plenty of flavour, at an appealing price tag.

Santo Remedio
152 Tooley Street, Southwark, SE1 2TU London
££ · Mexican

This lively, colourful spot serves brunch at the weekends between 12 and 4.30pm; sip Margaritas as if in Mexico, surrounded by vibrant décor, tropical plants and happy faces. The bottomless option gives you 90 free-flowing minutes of the classic cocktail – or alternatively cava, sangria, wine or beer. These are enjoyed alongside enchiladas, tacos and tostadas, with the soft shell crab tacos a particular highlight.

The Wolseley
160 Piccadilly, St James’s, W1J 9EB London
£££ · European

The Wolseley Group's eponymous flagship remains one of the capital's most popular brunch destinations. With its lively atmosphere and architectural grandeur, this iconic restaurant makes for the perfect spot for the occasion, perhaps followed by an afternoon wandering around The Royal Academy of Arts. Homemade Viennoiserie, eggs of all descriptions, kedgeree, porridge, a full English: the choice here is immense. And who knows, you might even spot a celebrity…
