Takeaway Republic of Ireland Michelin star

COVID-19 has had – and continues to have – a huge impact on Irish restaurants. Many have pivoted to serving takeaway in order to protect their livelihoods and staff – and we wanted to highlight them.

Here are all the restaurants with MICHELIN Stars and Bib Gourmands currently serving takeaway in the Republic of Ireland, with details of their offering. Please be aware that this information is subject to change.

This sweet MICHELIN-Starred restaurant in the heart of West Cork is run by locally-born chef Rob Krawczyk (son of the famous charcutier, Frank) and his partner Elaine. They are currently offering 'Sticks and Twigs' to go: pre-ordered and purchased 3 course dinner boxes for two to take away. Order 12pm-4pm Thursday and Friday (on 028-257660) and your food will be available for collection on the Saturday or Sunday of the same week.

Dishes could include duck liver pate with sourdough and pickles, Wagyu beef bourguignon or lemon curd with meringue, plum and green pistachio. There are also sweet and savoury treats available; these might include mini doughnuts (made in-house) or a box of Irish cheeses with parmesan crackers and hedgerow jelly.

Damien Grey and the team from MICHELIN-Starred Liath are adhering to their mission statement ‘Adapt, Evolve and Create’ by offering ‘Liath To Go’: a weekly changing menu of street food dishes designed to be eaten straight away. These are available for pre-order and are ready for collection Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm-3pm, or until sold out. (Call 01 212 3676).

Every week sees a different menu, with influences and ingredients from around the world, and the team are using this difficult time as an opportunity to try out new dishes. Choices so far have included lamb kofka with Greek salad and flatbread; spicy Korean chicken wings and kimchi slaw; Nonna’s Sambo (streaky bacon, mushrooms, spinach, gubbeen cheese, cheddar); Thai Fish Soup and adzuki bean cheesecake.

Cliff at Lyons, Lyons Road, Celbridge,

Jordan Bailey and Majken Bech-Bailey from Two MICHELIN Starred Aimsir are currently offering ‘Every Cloud’: a weekly changing 2 course menu and drink selection, which is rooted in the same Aimsir ethos of serving the very best of Irish ingredients, cooked with love, and can be pre-ordered here for collection on a Friday (4.00pm – 8.30pm) or Saturday (2.00pm – 8.30pm).

Dishes could include lightly smoked rare breed pork belly served in a Bread 41 croissant with pickled red cabbage, caramelised red onion jam and mustard mayonnaise; breaded wild Irish cod served in a Waterford Blaa with pickled cucumber, watercress and tartare sauce; and brown butter ice-cream with hazelnut miso cookie chunks. Drinks on offer include Lock 13 beer and homemade Kombucha.

Due to the Covid restrictions, this MICHELIN-Starred restaurant has pivoted to serving hot pot dishes for two to cook and share at home. Takashi and Stephanie Miyazaki have called their takeaway offering ‘Nabeya’ from the word ‘Nabe’, which is Japanese for ‘hot pot’, and ‘ya’ which translates as ‘house’. Pre-order and pre-pay by phone on Wednesday (10am-2pm) for collection on Friday or Saturday (call 021-427 9997).

Hot pots are a classic comfort food in Japan and there are many different versions. The meat, fish and vegetables are cooked in a delicious soup which gains in richness and flavour as the various ingredients are added – and the final step is the addition of rice. Choose from duck, chicken or seafood.

Home dining offering ‘1826 Abhaile’ can be ordered on 061396004 and is available for pick up on Saturday and Sunday. Dishes are served cold to be reheated at home, and might include house fish pie or ale-braised Hereford beef. Dessert choices could be lemon tart, sticky toffee pudding or some delicious Irish farmhouse cheese.

This popular restaurant is offering great value dishes to take away from Friday to Sunday (order from 1pm). Choices range from snacks like olives and salted almonds to starters such as seafood croquettes and mains like roast duck breast with duck fat chips or buttermilk fried chicken with harissa aioli (call 0429692848).

The team here are currently offering meal kits and wine for collection on Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 7pm (order here). The family-style box contains a selection of snacks and small plates, a main course and a dessert. Alternatively, go for whiskey-aged côte de boeuf – and add in some hash brown chips too!

This neighbourhood gem is providing a weekly changing menu, with food available for collection from 5pm – 9pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday (call 01 4788783 to place an order). Dishes could include game sausage and leek pie, seafood chowder with Guinness and treacle bread or venison lasagne with mulled wine and red cabbage.

A weekly changing set menu of Spanish dishes to be reheated at home is available; order online here for collection 3pm-7pm Thursday-Saturday (they also deliver in County Dublin, 1pm-6pm, Friday and Saturday). Menus go live on Sunday and might include dishes like spiced Kerry Hill lamb shoulder with smoked aubergine, purple sprouting broccoli, Taggiasca olive, anchovy and gratin potato.

The popular, limited availability ‘Aldridge at Home Sharing Menu for two’ is currently available every Saturday. The phone line (051 389116) opens at 5pm on Thursday for pre order and pre-payment. Dishes might include Kilmore Quay fish pie or stout braised beef spare rib, with extras like parmesan and truffle mayonnaise chips.

This sweet neighbourhood café is offering sandwiches, pastries, coffees and lots more for collection Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-5pm. Perhaps you fancy some oysters and a bottle of white wine? The eponymous ‘two cooks’ are offering a weekly changing takeaway 'special', to be pre-ordered by phone (045 853 768) for collection on Friday or Saturday, and reheated in the comfort of your home. Dishes could include beef stroganoff with potato gratin and roasted beetroot salad or whole rotisserie chicken with coleslaw, stuffing and sweetcorn. Add side dishes and drinks as you wish.

The team at Circa are serving up hot food that’s ready to eat, for collection Wednesday-Sunday: brunch 12pm-4pm and dinner 5pm-9pm (phone 01 5342644). There’s loads of choice; from a BLT, crab sandwich or slow cooked lamb shoulder on the brunch menu to côte de boeuf on the à la carte or set menu for two.
