Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking
The blackboard menu is inscribed with familiar Japanese comfort foods such as braised and seasoned burdock root, sukiyaki and fried minced meat cake. Potato salad is not mashed but entwined with cream; steamed wheat-gluten, wrapped in seaweed and fried, is pleasingly buttery; and mackerel sushi is served rolled and wrapped in seaweed. The owner-chef fine-tunes his dishes, making every dish fascinating. Oden stew is a fun treat in winter, thanks to his experience in the art of simmering. Stir-fried noodles and ramen are tempting choices as well.
