Contemporary Classic & Lively
The Hotel d’Angleterre has always been a love story. In the mid-1700s, Jean Marchal, a French servant, fell in love with Maria Coppy, the daughter of the royal chef, who was renowned for her culinary talents. Combining Maria’s exceptional cooking with Jean’s expertise in serving the privileged, in 1755 they opened a restaurant by the lakes of Copenhagen, later moving it to Kongens Nytorv, Copenhagen’s central square. After a fire in 1795, the hotel was moved to a new address on the square, where it has been standing as an icon and historic landmark of the city ever since.
Following a recent renovation, the hotel perfectly balances the stately Victorian architecture of its building with the graceful, understated elegance of contemporary Nordic design. Its 92 rooms and suites are individually decorated with stylish interiors and carefully curated artworks, featuring modern details that beautifully complement their traditional, sophisticated character.
The hotel’s spa, Amazing Space, is a serene oasis with a luxurious indoor swimming pool, as well as a modern fitness center and an extensive treatment menu.
Marchal, the hotel’s restaurant, offers refined Nordic and French cuisine in a setting that feels more like an exclusive members’ club than a formal banquet hall. Balthazar, Denmark’s first champagne bar, exudes Parisian elegance, while Maison d’Angleterre, the hotel’s delightful pink pâtisserie, has received numerous awards for its exquisite creations.
From the balconies, guests can admire views over the city’s central square, the Royal Danish Theatre, and the charming Nyhavn canal in the distance. This is truly where the heart of Copenhagen beats.
