Contemporary Classic & Lively
A few blocks from Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, an aristocratic Florentine family built a grand villa; avid supporters of the arts, they spared no expense commissioning local artists to create one-of-a-kind hand-painted ceiling frescoes, murals, and stuccoes throughout the building. Years later, the 19th-century mansion was reborn as the luxurious boutique hotel Dimora Palanca. The Tuscan architect Stefano Bibiani led the careful restoration effort, preserving the villa’s best features — the art, of course, but also its stately columns, original parquet flooring, and marble staircases — while interior designer Paolo Dovichi infused the interiors with modern décor by Italian brands like Maxalto and Flos. Rooms and suites are sleek and elegant, many featuring quaint balconies overlooking the jasmine-scented courtyard garden, and an array of art-filled common spaces include a drawing room, a chess lounge, and a cozy lounge bar.
