In Milan, of all places, you’d expect to find every business hotel looking effortlessly, impeccably chic. It’s not always the case, but it’s getting closer all the time, thanks to the likes of the Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale. Which is to say that when even the big chains are looking this good — Centric is the Hyatt group’s boutique-style, youth-oriented line — you know you’re in a bona fide style capital.
The look is sober, in muted dark tones and wood grain — in this city the design hotels are for grownups. Superior and deluxe rooms are plush and spacious, while some junior suites add private terraces. Others have private Turkish baths, and the full-size suites span some 40 square meters. Meanwhile the spa includes its own Turkish bath as well as one of the Roman variety. Public spaces include a lobby café, the Bistrot in a soaring double-height space, and, best of all, the spectacular (and self-explanatory) RoofBar.
The location is just outside the old city center proper, but right in between Milan’s twin rail stations, so it’s anything but inconvenient. Corso Como and Corso Garibaldi are entertainment-district highlights, and the Golden Quadrangle, Milan’s famous luxury-goods mecca, is two metro stations away.
