Modern Design & Happening
The first Soho House members’ club in continental Europe is Soho House Berlin, and its proprietors could hardly have wished for a more evocative setting — this Bauhaus structure is both historically significant and aesthetically distinctive. Not that Soho House has treated it with undue reverence; its renovation feels intentionally unfinished, with industrial rough edges that provide a pleasing counterpoint to the retro bohemian-luxe furnishings. And there’s art everywhere, including a Damien Hirst shark in the lobby — a spray-can sketch, not a preserved one — and works by innumerable contemporary Berlin-based artists.
Rooms start out Tiny, which is a slight exaggeration, but only slight; from there they range up to the aptly named Extra Large, which spans 100 square meters and comes with an ornate freestanding bathtub. At all levels they’re handsome in that inimitable Soho House way, and exceedingly comfortable at any size. But in the end you’re here not to shut yourself in your bedroom, but to inhabit Soho House’s members-only spaces.
These include a gym and spa that rival many standalone facilities, as well as a plush screening room that seats 30. Cecconi’s, the brand’s signature Northern Italian restaurant, is present as a matter of course, and members — that includes you, as an overnight guest — can order from the Club menu as well.
