A rehabilitated industrial site on the west side of the city is now the upscale, mixed-use New Shougang High-End Industry Comprehensive Service Area; Shougang Park for short, it’s a big deal, and is home to a rather spectacular Shangri-La hotel. Designed by the Milan-based practice Lissoni & Partners, it’s meant to make a statement, and it does — it’s rare, in China or anywhere else, to find a full-featured luxury hotel that’s quite so architecturally distinguished. There’s an impressive spa and a kids’ club that’s equally full-featured, complete with a climbing wall.
