Where To Dine Along The Jubilee Line

Explore London's restaurants with our guide to the best eateries close to London Underground stations

Providing easy access to the city's vast array of restaurants, The London Underground is not only a convenient way to travel around the capital, but a greener alternative too. The simplest way to pay is to tap your contactless card or smartphone. You can also buy an Oyster card (a pre-payment card which you can top up as required). In this article series, we take a look at some of the Michelin Inspectors’ favourite restaurants within easy reach of the Tube network. For information on London's transport network, we've got that covered too.

Although it may have been named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Jubilee Line didn’t actually open for another two years – but hopefully the trains are slightly more punctual these days. It has a sprawling and often useful route, being the only Tube line to have an interchange with every other line on the Underground. Forming something of a ‘U’ shape from the north west suburb of Stanmore to Stratford in the east, the Jubilee Line’s restaurants are heavily concentrated on its central section, with Baker Street, Bond Street, London Bridge and especially Green Park offering a multitude of dining options. Here are a few of our favourites.

Baker Street: Royal China Club
Chinese
Baker Street is such a useful station. It’s not only a handy interchange between five different Tube lines, but it also serves as a gateway to Marylebone and its fabulous restaurants. For Chinese cuisine, look no further than the still popular Royal China Club. At lunch, feast on dim sum such as barbecue pork buns or prawn and chive dumplings. In the evening, an extensive à la carte is available alongside various dim sum platters. The service team do a good job of running such a busy place so efficiently, without making diners feel rushed.

Bond Street: Zoilo
Argentinian
Large steaks from the grill and a fantastic all-Argentinian wine list are just two of the reasons to visit this restaurant off the busy shopping district around Bond Street. Other ingredients given the grilling treatment include octopus and baby gem lettuce, with the sea bream ceviche a good way to kick things off. It’s a well-run place, with friendly and efficient service, while a well-priced lunchtime ‘prix fixe’ makes this a great spot to drop in midway through your Oxford Street spending spree.

Green Park: Langan's Brasserie
Classic Cuisine
Something of an icon in these parts, Langan’s has been a part of the fabric of Mayfair since 1976. In its ’80s heyday, it was a renowned celebrity haunt that counted Mick Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John among its visitors. It’s been back on-form since reopening in 2021 following its unfortunate closure during the pandemic, serving an all-day menu filled with classical Anglo-French cooking. The Mural Bar is also part of the appeal, as is the ‘Upstairs’ private members’ club, for those lucky enough to be accepted.

Southwark: Bala Baya
Middle Eastern
Self-described as a ‘mini Tel Aviv’, this buzzing restaurant aims to bring authentic Israeli cuisine to London; it’s one of a community of eateries underneath the railway arches near Southwark station. The vibrant, adventurous dishes are designed for sharing and include intriguing options like savoury king prawn baklava and brisket 'doughnut’. A good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes are available too, while the charming, confident service tops things off perfectly.

London Bridge: José & Pizarro
Spanish, Mediterranean Cuisine
Head over to London Bridge and not only do you get a host of restaurants and food sellers in and around Borough Market, but you also get two top Spanish eateries just a block away from each other. Chef-founder José Pizarro decided to split both his name and his brand of unfussy, flavour-packed cooking across two sites on Bermondsey Street. José is a characterful and ever-busy place, where the day’s tapas plates are written on a blackboard. Pizarro offers more ‘main course’ style dishes, but still leaves plenty of room for sharing.
