8 New Bib Gourmands for The Nordic Countries 2024

Explore the restaurants in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden that have been awarded a Bib Gourmand for their great value cooking

At this year’s MICHELIN Guide Ceremony for The Nordic Countries – which took place at the Savoy Theatre in the City of Helsinki – we were delighted to reveal that 8 restaurants have been awarded a Bib Gourmand for 2024. Named after Bibendum – the official name of the Michelin Man – this distinction highlights restaurants offering great quality, great value cooking.

New Bib Gourmands in Denmark

Bobe, Copenhagen

Run by and named after celebrity chef Bo Bech, this central spot is one of four new Bib Gourmands in Copenhagen – wonderful news for the city’s good value dining scene. Over an extensive menu that ranges from snacks to sharing plates, the unifying theme is technically sound cooking and excellent ingredients. Produce like delicious, meaty cod is treated with the respect it deserves in the satisfying dishes.

Gabrielle, Copenhagen

There’s often great value for money to be found at a classic French bistro, and so it is at this well-run operation in the city centre. The concise à la carte offers carefully executed versions of French favourites including cassoulet, panisse and generous portions of their signature beef tartare, which showcases meat of undeniable quality. The same team run fellow Bib Gourmand Norrlyst, just a short walk away.

no.2, Copenhagen

This younger, more laid-back sibling to Two Michelin Starred a|o|c is situated on the edge of the dock, in an area where modern offices and apartments rub shoulders with red-brick former sugar factories. The kitchen’s skill comes through in the careful preparation of fine produce, with spot-on seasonings and an impressive level of restraint allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves. The lunch menu is particularly well-priced.

Paesàno, Copenhagen

Italy’s ‘cucina povera’ tradition is the inspiration behind many of the dishes at this lively restaurant. That means the use of oft-overlooked ingredients in vibrant cooking that doesn’t over-complicate matters but instead packs a flavourful punch. So come and tuck into some ‘soffrito napoletano’ or cod ‘acqua pazza’, while the noise of contented diners having an awful lot of fun reverberates around the room.

New Bib Gourmands in Finland

305, Helsinki

Many Bib Gourmand restaurants are neighbourhood operations, and this welcoming spot is no exception. One of two new Bibs in this year’s MICHELIN Guide Ceremony host city of Helsinki, 305 offers a fine example of how rustic, unfussy cooking can yield delicious results. The experienced chef’s skill shines through in the cleverly composed dishes that incorporate some international elements ranging from dashi to ravioli.

plein, Helsinki

A residential area is the home for this bistro-like operation which showcases the generosity that characterises all Bib Gourmands. The set menu is supplemented with a welcome broth and bread that feels appropriate for the restaurant’s homely feel. While there is a simplicity to the whole place, there’s also great skill evident in the cooking; if you get the chance to try the scallop with nduja and apple then you have to take it.

New Bib Gourmands in Norway

Frances, Oslo

Forming part of the recently redeveloped former US Embassy building, Frances is a multi-purpose venue that operates as a café, wine bar and restaurant. The latter displays a slight Mediterranean slant in its menu of vibrant sharing plates that are as good to look at as they are to eat. The balance of flavours and textures adds extra dimensions to each dish, and there is wonderful generosity to the offering – so you certainly won’t leave feeling hungry.

If there’s anyone in Norway hankering after a traditional British Sunday roast, then this is where to find it. The hearty and gutsy cooking that comes with a particular kind of UK restaurant is the inspiration for the chefs at this eatery – which adopts a similarly minimal, bistro-like aesthetic to many of its fellow new Bibs. The dishes display textbook technique and deliver plenty of satisfying flavours.
