MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

It may be located on a bustling Georgetown street lined with modern stores and coffee houses, but La Chaumière is as old-world as it gets—much to the delight of its loyal crowd of wealthy regulars and movers and shakers. Adorned with antique farm tools, repurposed barn wood beams and a roaring fireplace, the dining room is both charming and cozy. Even if the interior doesn't have you at bonjour, the food-rustic and unpretentious classics such as escargot and steak frites-will do the trick. House specials include the boudin blanc, quenelles de Brochet and tripe stew. Of course, cassoulet is yet another house favorite. They've also managed to sneak in a few newcomers, like Maryland crab cakes, but you'll find even these are cleverly Frenchified.
