MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

What can brown do for you? If you’re Jack Rose, a whole lot. Brown liquor is revered here, where four walls are lined with shelves of the stuff. There are 2,500 bottles and there is even a library-style, rolling wall-mounted ladder to access them. Don’t worry if your head spins before you take a sip; a Scotch specialist on the premises is happy to offer advice. Jack Rose isn't just about the bar; the kitchen delivers a hit list of gastropub-style eats. Dandelion greens pesto atop chewy fettucine is creative and flavorful; fried quail served over toast and spread with creamy sawmill gravy studded with sausage crumbles is positively delicious; and a warm mini butter cake topped with a scoop of butter-pecan ice cream is as tasty as it is adorable.
