MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Don’t let the name fool you. This isn’t a lederhosen-wearing, beer stein-waving sort of spot. Instead, imagine a former warehouse-turned-chic setting for German-rooted, Southern-slanted food. The fact this is complemented by an ace beer selection, Bavarian-inspired cocktails, and wine list worth a deeper look simply adds to the allure.Begin with garlic pretzel knots, served with mustard sauce and a pimento cheese dip for that signature Southern departure from German tradition. House-cured ham with smoked trout aïoli is tender to the point of creamy; pork sausage has that satisfying snap; and French onion spaetzel, in a caramelized onion béchamel, is utterly creative. Delicately charred pork chop set atop sauerkraut is a feast fit for more than one.
