For a Côte d’Azur hotel with a personal touch it’d be hard to top the Pastis Hotel, a ten-room boutique hotel owned by a pair of designers on the run from London, who’ve outfitted a lovely house facing the seaside with an impressive collection of photos, prints, and original artworks, with a 20th-century Pop focus. Its exterior is that of a classic Provençal house, with no hint of the modernist edge that marks so many St. Tropez boutique hotels.

Inside, however, it’s another story. The furniture is a mix of design classics and period-style pieces, and many of its 10 rooms come with patios, balconies, or terraces, as well as deep bathtubs, rain showers, or both. The style, still classic, becomes rather more eclectic, and the accommodations feel more like guest rooms in a private house than off-the-rack hotel rooms.

There’s an intimate restaurant, the candlelit Pastis Kitchen, which spills out into the garden, as well as a lovely little pool; the hotel’s eponymous liqueur can be counted on to make an appearance. Meanwhile it’s a shortish walk into the heart of town, which means convenience and tranquility are both among the hotel’s virtues.
