Directly across town from its sister hotel on the north side of Cologne, the Hopper Hotel St. Josef is almost identical in concept: a historical structure, in this case a 19th-century monastery, lovingly preserved on the outside, and transformed on the inside into a modernist, somehwhat minimalist boutique hotel. Breakfast is served in the old chapel, and the comfortable, visually spare rooms contain artworks by students from the Münster Art Academy. There’s a bar that spills out into the library and onto the patio, as well as a Finnish sauna and a gym, and the vibrant Südstadt district lies at your door.
