Cortina, home of the 1956 Winter Olympics, has long been one of Italy’s most famous ski towns, and Faloria has long been one of Cortina’s most famous hotels. But it’s only now, after a complete redesign at the hand of architect Flaviano Capriotti, that the Faloria Mountain Spa Resort ascends to the highest levels of contemporary luxury hospitality.

The existing structure hasn’t been entirely replaced, but you may as well think of today’s Faloria as a new hotel. The construction makes liberal use of the local wood and stone, and though the exterior retains plenty of traditional Alpine charm, the interiors are stylish and contemporary. Full-length windows frame impressive views of Cortina’s scenery, and there’s a remarkable continuity between the interiors and the landscape.

Also redesigned, and also contemporary, are the rooms and suites, in soothing muted colors and a restrained color palette. There’s an extensive spa and wellness center, as is typical in the Alps, as well as a restaurant and lounge that recall the style you probably expect from an Italian lodge. Meanwhile Cortina’s position as part of the Dolomiti Superski area is key to its appeal, and you’re a short ride from the lifts at the heart of Cortina proper.
