Modern Design & Lively
So focused are the hoteliers of the world on serving the upscale, the aspirational, the exclusive, that they’ve more or less forgotten about everyone else — with the result that the mere idea of a stylish and livable budget hotel in a major capital city is now regarded as almost a logical impossibility. CitizenM Amsterdam, however, is an exception to this rule.

The rooms are small, as the concept more or less dictates, with a king bed spanning the entire width of the chamber. It’s rather more than a capsule hotel, though, both spatially and in terms of services. Not many capsules come with device-friendly Smart TVs, climate control and electronic window blinds, let alone mini-iPads to control them all. And the look is as sensibly chic as you’ve come to expect from modern Dutch design, with perhaps an added measure of coziness to make up for the close quarters.

Here you’ll find yourself reasonably close to the thick of things, your Amsterdam Zuid neighborhood affording relatively easy access to the city center. Yet another reason CitizenM isn’t made for lounging — since you’re likely to spend a fair bit of your time out of doors, you’ll find the quick meal options in the café/canteen/bar to be quite satisfactory.
