MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This Kalorama diva offers a unique setting, having taken up residence in an unassuming brick building. Walk through a set of narrow doors to arrive at a cool, marble bar, where sipping a cocktail seems almost imperative. Up a few stairs and land amidst an artwork-clad dining room, with leather booths and tables set under a greenery-dressed skylight. If that doesn't leave you feeling one with Mother Nature, look to the romantic "garden" oasis.

The kitchen is led by Chef Frank Ruta, who's cooking is pivoted around local product. His menu weaves an autobiography of sorts with regional influences, as seen in a summer bean-and-peach salad with crunchy sesame dressing; or gnocchi with black trumpet mushrooms. Sweet figs atop a cheesecake make a decadent finale.
