MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Look for the noren marking an entrance hiding in plain sight to find this striking retreat. The name roughly translates to “cottage set apart,” which makes sense as it operates in collaboration with Chateau Marmont, just one block away. Everything has a sort of Hollywood-cool feel—from the bare wood tables and disposable chopsticks to the strings of party lights and lanterns.
Choose from two kaiseki tastings as well as à la carte sushi and izakaya bites. An absolute favorite is the house-made tofu, scooped tableside and served warm with wari-joyu. Be sure to appreciate their dramatic opening presentation of uni on Japanese milk bread served under a cloche with cherry blossom smoke. Lighter appetites will love the trio of raw and marinated fish dishes.
