MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants catering to the local expats in San Jose, but Thiên Long stands out for its pleasant dining room presenting delicious cooking—as the numerous families filling the large space will attest. Tile floors and rosewood-tinted chairs decorate the space, while walls hung with photos of Vietnamese dishes keep the focus on food.
Begin with sweet-salty barbecued prawns paired with smoky grilled pork and served atop rice noodles. But, it is really the pho with a broth of star anise, clove and ginger, topped with perfectly rare beef that is a true gem—even the regular-sized portion is enormous. English is a challenge among the staff, but they are very friendly; plus the authentic flavors make up for any inadequacies.
