MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Deep in the concrete jungle, this newbie from super chef Michael Mina aims to offer a taste of the islands. In collaboration with Hawaiian culinary power couple, Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka, this tavern's lofty ceilings, leafy plants and tropical turquoise accents offer a punchy contrast against its expansive views of the surrounding skyscrapers.
Native Hawaiian ingredients from lilikoi to poi make appearances, often alongside Asian influences—the huli huli chicken, for example, comes with rice cakes and Chinese broccoli. But for a luxe workday lunch, the prix-fixe is a steal. Start with the ahi tuna poke with fried wonton “nachos," and wrap up over the tart strawberry-hibiscus shaved ice, piled atop haupia tapioca and mochi ice cream.
