First published in 2007, MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2008 drew global attention as the first MICHELIN Guide in Asia and marked a defining moment in bringing the appeal and value of Japanese food culture, especially washoku, to the world.
Since then, the MICHELIN Guide has continued to spotlight the richness of Japan’s culinary landscape, the extraordinary talent of its chefs and the traditions rooted in each region.
In 2027, as the MICHELIN Guide celebrates 20 years in Japan, the selections for Tokyo, Kyoto-Osaka and Nara will be unveiled together for the first time in Japan. From Tokyo, the city with the most Stars in the world, the Guide will share the appeal of Japanese food culture with the world.
Three 2027 Selections to Be Released on Feb. 16, 2027
On the day of the announcement, the 2027 selections for MICHELIN Guide Tokyo, Kyoto-Osaka and Nara will be released on the official MICHELIN Guide website and app.
Details of the Stars, Bib Gourmand restaurants and selected restaurants in each selection will be revealed after the announcement. This will be the first time in Japan that selections previously announced by region will be unveiled together.
20 Years Since the First MICHELIN Guide in Asia
Since the publication of MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2008, the MICHELIN Guide has introduced Japanese gastronomy to audiences in Japan and around the world.
Washoku has earned admiration around the world for its refined techniques, depth of flavor and elegant expression of the seasons. The passion and craftsmanship of Japanese chefs, together with food cultures deeply rooted in local communities, continue to inspire people everywhere.
This simultaneous announcement marks a new step in spotlighting the rich culinary character of Japan and its regions.
A New Announcement Format for the MICHELIN Guide
In recent years, the MICHELIN Guide has increasingly adopted formats that bring multiple cities or regions together.
In Japan, this format will be adopted in the milestone year of the Guide’s 20th anniversary, bringing together the selections for Tokyo, Kyoto-Osaka and Nara.
