Modern Design & Lively
Colonial heritage infused with a contemporary sensibility — this is the combination that defines The Prestige Hotel, a chic lodging in Penang’s Georgetown neighborhood (which is itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The building suits the district’s Victorian architecture to a tee, but once you’re inside you’ll see the liberties that have been taken with the hotel’s 19th-century inspiration.

There are six types of accommodations, all with the latest technology and a soft, soothing design. The look is modern, but with Victorian bones — the near-monochrome palette is livened by gentle pastels and highlights in brass, and while the style isn’t exactly traditional, it is extremely tasteful. After a busy day of exploring the area’s rich cultural treasures — most within walking distance — guests rest and relax at the rooftop saltwater pool with views overlooking the Straits of Malacca or with a wellness-focused treatment at the spa.
