Arlo Wynwood

The first hotel to open in the emerging Miami neighborhood of Wynwood is a familiar name from New York and Miami Beach: Arlo Wynwood is not a cult Sixties folk singer but an outpost of the up-and-coming boutique hotel group, joining the three Arlos in Manhattan and the related Nautilus in Miami Beach. Like its siblings it’s a design-focused, youth-oriented hotel, and it adds a bit of extra color, in a tribute to its Arts District location.

For the most part this local color comes in the form of exterior murals painted by Miami artists. There’s plenty of artwork indoors as well, and even the rooms contain small pieces as lively accents to the clean, minimalist interiors. And while the accommodations aren’t hyper-luxe, they’re certainly comfortable; many have balconies, and all have necessities like 55-inch televisions and Nespresso machines.

Arlo Wynwood’s greatest attraction might be its rooftop pool, lined with cabanas and serviced by its own bar. There’s a second outdoor bar, the open-air Higher Ground, in the verdant third-floor courtyard. And the hotel’s Florida brasserie, MaryGold’s, showcases the diversity of influences that make modern Miami’s food scene so extraordinary.
