The transformation of a popular underground supper club into a fully formed brick and mortar may sound like a familiar tale, but rest assured that there's nothing formulaic about this East Bay iconoclast, whose name is a clue to the kind of exuberant irreverence diners should expect. Intriguingly mononymous Chef/owner Imana describes the style as "vulgar fine dining," and there's no denying that the experience is a far cry from buttoned up. Paintings of clowns and a raucous ambiance set the carnival scene for an eclectic tasting menu whose flavors span Latin America and beyond. The courses may not arrive in the prescribed order, but each displays plenty of flavor and personality, and it’s easy to get swept up in the spirit of boisterous fun.
