Chef Christoph Rainer draws inspiration from his travels to Japan and other Asian countries, as is reflected in the renaming of the restaurant, from Luce d'Oro to IKIGAI (the Japanese word means "a reason for being"). A love for Japan can be discerned in appealing details such as the elegant tableware, which includes decorative Japanese kokeshi dolls, but first and foremost when it comes to the food. Christoph Rainer consistently incorporates Asian and Japanese elements into his creations. The Tristan langoustine binchotan BBQ with kanzuri, komatsuna-kimchi and aka oroshi is a highlight. The quality of the ingredients is second to none. Adept service comes courtesy of an unflappable front-of-house team including your charming sommelier, Marie-Helen Krebs, who is pleasingly laid back yet impressively knowledgeable. There is also a decent sake selection available for pairings. The refined interior with its pared-back design and warm wood sets a sophisticated tone.
