Kissaki

Chef Mark Garcia may have launched a myriad spots, but Kissaki is especially favored due to its simple, inviting setting, sushi counter, smattering of seats, and gray-painted walls. A midnight-blue, tan and gray motif drives home the clean design aesthetic. Correspondingly, the omakase is markedly more unique and even if one takes those lavish garnishes away, the diner is left with impeccably cooked shari rice mingled with pristine fish.
Begin with a hearty grilled cheese (toasted brioche packed with a burrata-ricotta mix and Santa Barbara uni). From there, tread into lighter bites, like soy-brushed blue fin tuna or shima aji with black garlic purée. Grapefruit-campari sorbet with baby kiwi proves that this food is about elegant and peak flavors.
