Modern Design & Happening
Among Soho House’s strengths is a knack for making a statement with an unusual building — in this case a ten-story Modernist-inspired structure in the up-and-coming district of San Lorenzo, to the east of Rome’s historic center. More important than the architecture, though, is the atmosphere cultivated by the fact that Soho House is not just a hotel, but a club — so you’ll share its eclectic, art-filled public spaces not only with travelers but with in-the-know locals as well.
Membership leans heavily on the creative industries, which ensures a lively crowd; they’re here to mix in the ninth-floor restaurant, bar, and drawing room, or on the rooftop at Cecconi’s Terrazza, for a taste of Venice with a bird’s-eye view of Rome. They’re also here for the Soho Health Club, a gym and spa spanning the entirety of the seventh and eighth floors.
For the duration of your stay, of course, you’re a member too, and these spaces are yours. In this context it might be tempting to think of the rooms as of secondary importance, but they’re characteristically impressive, ranging from the very compact Tiny to the vast two- and three-bedroom apartments. All are aesthetically memorable, and feel more collected than designed; and while this is no ordinary luxury hotel, the comforts are fine indeed.
