De Caus was also an engineer, mathematician, musical theorist, and a designer of fountains and gardens, and his Parisian residence was a testament to his love of beauty and symmetry, qualities that are still reflected in the building’s modern incarnation as a boutique hotel. From the elegant marble and stone façade to its light-filled rooms and cheerful communal spaces, including a breakfast room with an Art Nouveau–style glass roof, Le Solly is luminous, charming, and rich with aesthetically pleasing details.
Rooms are quaint and compact with parquet floors, a sleek black, white, and beige color scheme, gallery-like walls lined with framed oil paintings and lithographs, and chic speckled marble bathrooms. All rooms are bright with natural light, with some facing the interior courtyard and others with balconies overlooking the square below; a select few offer glimpses of the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
