Michelin is pleased to present the 2018 selection of the MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. This is the fourth edition of the guide for the two main cities of Brazil. This year's selection includes two new two-starred restaurants, two with one star and four new Bib Gourmand eateries.
"The 2018 selection of the MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo reinforces the potential of the two cities to become international gastronomic destinations in their own right," states Michael Ellis, international director of the MICHELIN Guides. He continues, "Local and international chefs increasingly offer diners the opportunity to experience a high quality and unique culinary experience not found elsewhere.
Chef Felipe Bronze's Oro in Rio de Janeiro, known for its avant-garde Brazilian cuisine, was awarded its second star. In São Paulo, chef Ivan Ralston led Tuju to two stars, its identity based on the research of Brazilian ingredients and the discovery of suppliers who value the traditional products and techniques of the country. Alex Atala's D.O.M. retained its two stars in this year's edition as well.
Both in São Paulo, Ryo Gastronomia and Tangará Jean-Georges join the ranks of the country's one-Michelin-starred restaurants, bringing the total to 15. Ryo Gastronomia specializes in kaiseki, offering a complete and exclusive Japanese gastronomic experience. Tangará Jean-Georges, part of the global Jean-Georges Vongerichten empire, offers a modern international cuisine using the best ingredients and Brazilian flavors.
A total of 33 restaurants were given the Bib Gourmand designation, representing quality cooking at moderate prices. The four new recipients include Fitó, Piccolo, Petí Panamericana, and Bio.
